Some Snow and Cartography

Yesterday was a good reminder of why I like homeschooling. There was snow on the ground in the morning, but it was gone by the afternoon. We got a slow start to our day (my fault) but after breakfast we went straight outside to play. They had to scavenge for snow, but had fun anyways!
When we came in, we had hot chocolate and then we got down to work. It was after 10:30 before we started school! And yet....that's okay!

We started with science and talked about cartography and I gave them the assignment to draw maps of their neighborhood with at least 5 locations on it.
I didn't plan on it taking so long but it took 2 hours and they were enjoying themselves! M and H didn't have to use a scale, but J did. The scale was hard to get started with but eventually he started enjoying it. M and H enjoyed drawing freely and adding details.

I love finding unexpected enjoyment in school stuff because it makes it so much easier to meet our hour goals. Not every homeschool day is this enjoyable, so this was nice!
